Final program

The European Delirium Association's 7th annual meeting in Bielefeld will focus on widening the perspective on delirium research.

By also inviting speakers whose field of work is not primarily in delirium research, but in areas that are of core interest  pathophysiologically or clinically - such as sleep medicine and psychophysiology, attention psychology, geriatric medication, blood-brain barrier disruption - we hope to encourage "cross-pollination" to the benefit of a better understanding of the syndrome

Foremost, we are very delighted to announce our two keynote speakers:
  • Christian Bien
Immune-mediated encephalopathies as differential diagnoses in acute/subacute delirious states
Professor of Neurology and head of the Epilepsy Center Bethel, Bielefeld, Germany. His work has fundamentally influenced our understanding of antibody mediated encephalitis and how these disorders often present themselves as epileptic syndromes - with clinical features not uncommon to those seen in delirium.
  • Theodore Stern
Psychiatric syndromes that look like delirium: Differential diagnosis and treatment
Professor of Psychiatry in the field of Psychosomatic Medicine and Consultation at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. He has spent a career in multidisciplinary neuropsychiatric differential diagnosis, contributing significantly to how we recognize, prevent and treat delirium.
